Shahram Karimi, an Iranian painter and filmmaker who migrated to Germany in 1988 and has been working in Berlin and New York for many years. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in cities such as Shiraz, Tehran, Cologne, America, Italy, and at various galleries and art fairs including Art Basel, Contemporary Arts, San Sebastian, Torino, Italy, Cologne Gallery, Brigitte Schenck Gallery, Cologne, Germany.
He has also curated exhibitions such as "Look at Me" at the Beth Rubin Davoodi, Leila Heller Gallery, New York, "Elephant in the Dark" at the Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi, India, "Mask and Mirror" curated by Shirin Neshat, Leila Heller Gallery, New York, America, "Tehran-New York" at the ltmh gallery, New York, America, "Art 20", International Art Fair, New York, America, "25 Years of Separation", Iranian Cultural Center, Los Angeles, California, Contemporary Art Gallery, Pansovo, Yugoslavia, "Poetic Justice", 8th Istanbul Biennial. He also won the Reinzik Award in 1997. Shahram Karimi's works are influenced not only by Iranian culture and poetry but also by Western modern art, showing a unique expression of their combination. Unlike many of his contemporaries, this artist has ventured slightly beyond the traditional path of modern Iranian art. He avoids using traditional symbolic elements found in the works of Iranian modernist artists.
